Air Fryer Buffalo Wings
You guys, I am so glad I got this air fryer. I keep discovering more and more awesome things I can do with it. Just take a look at my latest creation: Air Fryer Buffalo Wings.
Now, as you guys know, in the past I’ve had kind of a love-hate relationship with Buffalo wings. I absolutely love the flavor of Buffalo wings, but I hated the hassle of cooking and dipping all the wings. So I’ve spent a lot of time coming up with simpler recipes to use Buffalo spice, from Honey Buffalo Crockpot Meatballs to Buffalo Tater Tot Bites.
But now, with my new air fryer, cooking up a batch of actual chicken wings is quick and easy. I just lay them out in the fryer basket and give them 11 minutes on each side at 360, then pop the temperature up to 380 for a final 4 minutes to really crisp them up.
Cooked this way, with hot air circulating around them, the wings come out perfectly crisp on all sides, but still tender and juicy inside. All I have to do is toss them with a mixture of butter and Buffalo hot sauce and serve them up with celery sticks and a nice dip.
Why is cooking wings in an air fryer better than just baking them?
- When you bake wings, they never really cook evenly. One side of them is always touching the pan, while the other is exposed to the air, drying out. So you either have to keep turning them repeatedly or just put up with wings that are more done on one side than the other. But since the air fryer circulates air around them on all sides, they crisp up evenly.
Can you use frozen chicken wings in the air fryer?
- Yes, the air fryer can even handle wings straight out of the freezer. Just give them about 3 minutes longer on each side at the lower temperature before bumping them up to 380 for the final crisping.
How spice are these wings?
- I’d say they’re spicy but not super fiery. If you like them milder, you can cut the amount of Frank’s Buffalo Sauce in the recipe and increase the amount of butter to make up for it. And if you like them really hot, kick up the spice level by replacing part of the Buffalo Sauce with Frank’s XTRA Hot Sauce, which is more concentrated.
What kind of dipping sauce do you use for your Buffalo wings?
- Either blue cheese or ranch dressing works. Both of them have a nice, creamy texture and mild flavor that tones down the spiciness of the wings. Or you can serve both!
How to make Air Fryer Buffalo Wings
- After cutting the chicken wing, dry the wing with a paper towel and season with salt.
- Spray the air fryer with nonstick cooking spray. Lay the chicken wings in the basket but be sure to leave a little room around each wing to allow the air to circulate around them to give them the crispiness you are looking for. Set the temperature to 360 and cook for 11 minutes.
- When the timer is up then flip the wings and cook for another 11 minutes. After that then flip one more time and up the temperature to 380 degrease and cook for another 4 minutes.
- While the wings are cooking, melt the butter and mix with the buffalo sauce.
- Once the wings are done cooking, toss in the sauce and serve with your favorite dipping sauce.

- 1 cup of Franks Buffalo Sauce
- Salt to taste
- Nonstick cooking spray
- Ranch or Blue Cheese

I love this recipe but we also sprinkle the wings with Tony’s Creole Seasoning for a bit of a bite and then sometimes eliminate the butter and Franks.

I know this is dumb but is there a video on how to cut the chicken?

No a dumb question at all. I don’t have a video for this one yet, but there isn’t really any cutting happening. You will want to go buy chicken wings (they will be precut) to use for this recipe.
