Add some fall fun to your lunchbox routine.
You guys already know how I love to pack my kids special lunches for holidays, like Halloween or Valentine’s Day. But sometimes, I don’t want to wait for a holiday to make lunchtime special. So, during those stretches of several weeks at a time with no holiday in sight, I latch on to the time of year and make that my theme for a little lunchbox fun.
This doesn’t have to be complicated, either. Sometimes, dressing up a lunchbox for fall can be as simple as getting out your fall-themed cookie cutters (here’s a cute set, if you don’t already have some) and taking them to one item or another. Make leaf-shaped sandwiches, leaf-shaped cheese slices, or a quesadilla shaped like an adorable squirrel.
Tossing in a few autumn-themed goodies also gives a lunchbox a festival fall flavor. Nuts are always appropriate, or some autumn candy mix with those mini pumpkins in it. Or, you can add a fall theme to a piece of fruit. Turn a peeled mandarin orange into a little pumpkin by giving it a celery-stick stem. Or just use your paring knife to carve “fall” into the side of an apple.
The point is, you don’t have to do that much. Just a little touch is all it takes to give your lunchbox some fall flair.
Cute Fall Lunchbox Ideas
- French Toast Stick Lunch: Frozen French toast sticks, a mandarin orange with a celery stem to look like a pumpkin and vanilla Greek yogurt with orange and red crystal sprinkles.
- Fall Leaves Lunch: Simply cut bread slices with cookie cutter and spread butter on top (could also use cream cheese, peanut butter or other nut butters) and sprinkle with orange and red crystal sprinkles. There is a treat of autumn candy corn pumpkins and Reese pieces in the top corner and a half of an apple with the word Fall carved out just by using a paring knife. You can use sprite or lemon juice to keep it from browning.
- Squirrel Quesadilla: A simple cheese quesadilla cut out with a squirrel cookie cutter. Every squirrel is in search of nuts this time of year so a bed of nuts mixed with cranberries. Fresh blueberries and celery filled with veggie cream cheese and decorated with pumpkin seeds finish this one off.
- Cheese and Crackers: Cut the cheese with a cookie cutter for this quick and simple lunch. Dried apple chips and a pumpkin patch of chopped carrots make this one delicious lunch.
