Do you remember sipping a classic Shirley Temple as a child? Well, who says you can’t make a good thing better?!
The Dirty Shirley is a classic Shirley Temple elevated to a new adult favorite with the addition of Vodka. And I can’t think of a better time to give this TikTok Trending sensation a try than this Halloween. Garnishing your Dirty Shirley Temple with a syringe of Grenadine makes it just a little spooky too!
The Dirty Shirley is a little tart, a little sweet, and the perfect combination of refreshing and delicious. You will also love how simple it is to create. The addition of the grenadine-filled syringe makes it a simple, sweet, and spooky Halloween Signature Cocktail to celebrate in style. Everyone will love this easy cocktail!
What will I need to complete this Dirty Shirley recipe? You will need the following ingredients for your Dirty Shirley Cocktail
4 Simple ingredients plus a little ice and you’ll be on your way to a 100% delicious Shirley Temple-inspired adult beverage. Here’s what you’ll need. For exact measurements, scroll to the recipe card below.
- Vodka – Any vodka will work, pick your favorite. Cherry vodka would also be great if you’re looking for a sweeter cocktail.
- Lemon-lime soda – I tend to lean toward 7UP or Sprite but any lemon-lime soda will do, including diet options. Not a lemon-lime soda person? No problem. You are welcome to use ginger ale, tonic water, seltzer water, or soda water instead.
- Grenadine
- Maraschino cherries – This is optional but I think they make the perfect treat after your final sip. Plus they add such a nice pop of color.
- Ice
You will need the following supplies:
- Glasses – Any 10-12 ounce glass will do but I prefer a highball glass or a Collins glass.
- Measuring Cup – You will need a liquid measuring cup or a 1-2 ounce shot glass to measure out your ingredients.
- Spoon
- Oral Medication Syringes – You can find them here on Amazon.
- Straws – You certainly don’t need to use a straw but I think it’s the best way to drink this tasty treat.
As fun as the grenadine-filled syringe is in this recipe, you can leave it off and enjoy this cocktail year-round at happy hour. (not just on Halloween).
Serve this spooky cocktail in whatever glass you’d like (just be sure it will hold at least 10 ounces). My favorites would be a tall glass like a Collins cocktail glasses and highball glasses
Totally! In fact, I encourage you to do so for your next Halloween bash. Just scale the recipe up to serve the number of guests you’re expecting, mix everything together in a pitcher (minus the ice), cover it in plastic wrap, and store it in the fridge.
When you are ready to serve, pour the batch cocktail into a punch bowl with ice. Garnish with maraschino cherries, and arrange grenadine-filled syringes around the rim of the bowl. Not Halloween? Pour it into a pitcher with ice instead and leave off the syringes.
Sure! It won’t be “dirty” anymore. It will just be a traditional Classic Shirley Temple Mocktail with a spooky twist. Call is a Spooky Shirley (kind of catchy, right?)! Your kiddos are sure to love the addition of the grenadine-filled syringe.
Syringes aren’t something you come across every day but they are pretty easy to track down online. Try these ones from Amazon.
