I always use avocado in my chicken salad! I actually use it in lieu of mayo or yogurt to bind it together. Your recipe looks and sounds delicious. I’ll have to try it!

This looks so yummy! Unfortunelty my daughter is lactose intolerant! Do you have any recommendations for a substitution? Do u think it would be good without it? Thank you!! π
Trevor says
Sarah, I make this recipe without dairy products in order for it to be more compatible with my diet. The ingredients still blend nicely with the avocado serving as a nice, healthy, creamy alternative.
Amber Da Ponte says
Both myself and my 2 daughters are lactose intolerant so I understand that concern. You could use lactose intolerant Greek yogurt or if you can find the yogurt made with oat milk that would work too. Otherwise you could probably omit and just add a little more Mayo and more avocado?
Nicole says
I wonder how many Weight Watchers points this is? I gotta try it!
Teresa says
Did you figure out the w.w. points on this I would like to know also!!!
Carolyn says
I calcuated 4 points for 1/5 of the recipe…I made it with canned chicken and just a little bit of fat free Greek yogurt (no mayo)
Kevin says
I must say that this was a delicious recipe. My very finicky kids ate them and loved them! Instead of pita bread I tried them in whole wheat wraps since I’m not too fond of pita bread, although my wife persuaded me to make them with pita bread next time. (I’m such a pushover) I added extra cilantro, like 2 tablespoons, as my whole family LOVES Cilantro. I couldn’t resist and I whipped it up the night before with canned chicken and it was a quick and easy dinner for a busy night. Thanks so much for sharing this and I’m looking forward to what else you might conjur up!
Corey says
This is awesome Kevin! I love that you added more cilantro. I also did that to my share of the salad. Can never get enough of that stuff π XO
Sara says
This is so yummy! I added diced orange bell pepper, minced garlic and green onions also substituted olive oil mayo for real mayo. I also simmered the chicken in chicken broth which gave it a bunch of flavor! Great recipe, Thank you!
Corey says
YUM! I bet the added bell peppers were awesome π
Ashley G says
Found this recipe courtesy of Pinterest and just prepped it for tomorrow’s lunch. I am going to add the avocado and lime tomorrow a little before lunch, but the chicken salad is already delicious. I omitted the mayo and I don’t think it needs it. Who knew Greek yogurt would substitute so well?! Thanks for the brilliant recipe!
Marcia says
Do you know how many weight watchers point this would be
Cecily says
Great recipe, can this be made with tuna instead of chicken? Thanks!
Corey says
Sounds like a yummy idea to me!
Carmen says
Just made this for lunch. OMG it’s soooo good and easy to make! Thank you for the recipe!
Corey says
I am so glad you loved it Carmen π
Christine says
I am looking forward to making this recipe – just waiting for the avocado to ripen. BTW, just the salad is 5 WW points.
Amanda says
I just got through eating this and it was AWESOME!!!!! I LOVE chicken salad but am very picky about how it is made… This I will say is my new favorite lunch time meal!!! Can’t wait to have it again tomorrow! I added some garlic and onion powder and extra lime juice this time but next time I may add some diced tomatoes and onions as well and probably more avocado. Thank you so much for sharing! π
Kendra says
Made it exactly as you wrote it. So amazing. It will be a regular recipe at my house.
Corey says
Yay Kendra! I am so glad you love it π
Leah says
I made this for dinner a few minutes ago (luckily I had every single ingredient on hand) and it was DELICIOUS. I used whole wheat wraps and my boyfriend and I devoured them. Thank you very much!
elizabeth says
AMAZING!!!
Kaylyn says
When I hear others talking about not using the mayo., do they double up on the yogurt? I am thinking I will use Greek yogurt and make half with the yogurt and avocado and half with only avocado. My tummy is grumbling already. Thank you.
Lynn says
Awesome!!! I made it with left over (home made) Cafe Rio chicken. So good!
Corey says
Sounds yummy Lynn π
Jill says
Prior to finding this recipe I would have said I don’t like chicken salad. This recipe is a game changer! My husband and I absolutely loved it! I added more cilantro because we can never get enough of it, and served it on fresh kaiser rolls. It will be a new regular in our house! Thanks Corey!
Corey says
That is so awesome Jill. Thank you so much for taking the time to leave this comment. It totally made my day π XOXO
tanya says
I made this and love it!! Is there any way to keep the avacado from turning brown with the left overs? Still delicious but not so pretty!
Holly says
You can use some lemon juice to prevent the avocado from turning brown!
Corey says
Great tip Holly π
Angela says
This looks delicious!! Would you know the nutritional value of this recipe???

I made this for dinner tonight and it was phenomenal! So so good. I didn’t have the stuff to make mayo on hand, so I just doubled the Greek yogurt. Such a simple and delicious recipe. Definitely a keeper. Thank you so much for sharing!

Brittany says
AMAZING!! Made the dish exactly as the recipe says and it was ridiculously amazing!! Even my husband that doesn’t like avocadoes or chicken salad was impressed. This will not only become a staple in my house for dinners but I’m going to add it to my football appetizer list as well! Thank you!!
Corey says
That is so awesome Brittany! Thank you so much for sharing π
Annette says
This was so good. I also tripled the cilantro and added a tablespoon of finely diced red onion and 1/4 cup of celery. (I like my chicken salad crunchy). I tried it on the Triscuit cracked pepper crackers, which I think added even more flavor and texture. I will definitely make this again and again. Thank you so much.
Amanda says
Made as directed and it was yummy! Then I added more cilantro, serrano peppers, roma tomato, and red onion (like a guacamole). Waiting until tomorrow for all the flavors to mix, but this will be a go to for leftover chicken π
Rebecca Carlton says
This was too salty for my taste π
Corey says
Well, that’s an easy fix π I would suggest removing the salt all together then, and adding a little at a time π
amy says
I left out the cilantro. It was too salty for me too. I think I’ll cut all the spices in half or leave them out altogether and add more lime juice to bring out the avocado flavor. I will definitely make it again, though. Thanks for posting this.
Nothing can compare to the barbecue chicken on this site, which I am making today!
Liz says
This is one of the few recipes I’ve found on Pinterest that I haven’t modified in any way. Completely outstanding. This brings chicken salad to a whole new level without resorting to the tried and true nuts, cranberries, grapes, and apples. Can’t wait to look through your other recipes!
Mishelle says
I must say, I made this tonight and it was absolutely phenomenal BEFORE it chilled in the fridge! I can’t wait to eat it for lunch tomorrow!
Corey says
Yay! I hope you also enjoy it for lunch today π
Jenny says
I added hard boiled egg and used less salt. Pretty good!
Corey says
Sounds great Jenny π
Debbie says
I added curry powder and some raisins…..to die for!!!! Love it!
Corey says
YUM!
Stacy says
Made this yesterday. TRULY phenomenal. This will be a staple for my lunches in the future. Chicken salad is one of my favorite things EVER and this is such a healthy tasty version I feel good about it. Thank you so much!
Heather Krut says
I saw this recipe two days ago, made it yesterday and thought this was fantastic. The only thing I did differently, was left out the cilantro (because I didn’t have any), and instead of leaving the avocado cubed, I put it in a ninja blender with all the other ingredients (except chicken), and blended until it became sort of a creamy dip consistency. Scooped it all out, shredded the chicken in the blender, mixed the two together in a bowl and threw it in the fridge for 30 mins. I ate it on pita with lettuce.
Thank you so much for such an easy, flavorful, healthy recipe. I’ve already shared it with friends.
Anne says
Looks great! Can this be made the night before? Or will the avocado turn bad overnight?
Corey says
Yes Anne! I make a big batch and have used it for up to 3 days after π
Richard Hernandez says
I’m a big fan of anything avocado and cilantro. I made this for dinner today and had no complaints. I tweaked the recipe with ground chicken and sauteed onions. Thanks for sharing this recipe with us.
Corey says
Saute onions sound like a great addition Richard!
Rachael Tomlin says
I just made this chicken salad and it’s the best one I have ever had. I’m trying to incorporate more avocado into my diet because I have never really been a fan…this is a great way to start. Truly the best chicken salad, ever.
Corey says
Thank you so much Rachael!
Melissa says
Made this today. SOOOO yummy! I love the kick of flavor the lime juice gives. Can’t wait to take some for lunch this week!
Corey says
Yay! This chicken salad just gets better after being in the fridge a couple days π Enjoy lunch this week! π
Joy says
Thanks for posting this. I was looking for something to use a rotisserie chicken with and it also needed to be ok for a candida diet. I substituted the yogurt for plain kefir that is in the tub and omitted the mayo. It was yummy alone with no bread. I think next time I will put it over lettuce like a taco and maybe add a few crunchy veggies.
Caroline says
This was amazing! I added 2 avocados instead of 1, turned out great!
Chrissy says
I make chicken salad with avocado all the time for my kids, who both have food allergies. I don’t really measure, but use the same ingredients minus mayo and yogurt. I had been trying to find a way to make an eggless (mayo-less) chicken salad due to egg allergies. This is going to sound strange, but I’ve done this with tuna salad too on tuna salad sandwich night. I’ve also tried Gwyneth Paltrow’s recipe for tofu mayo… I love tofu, but really–Avocado with salt, lime, slivers of red onion, and plenty of cilantro is so much tastier!
RaShell S says
This is amazing! I had it for dinner last night, and I’m making it for lunch today. Thank you so much for sharing. Yum!
Carolyn says
I made this last night and portioned it out for the week to bring to work for lunch, but I’m worried that it might not look so pretty come Thursday or Friday…Thoughts? Suggestions? Delicious recipe! I will definitely be making it again π
Lizzie says
I had some avocados that I wanted to use before they went bad, so I made this last night and it was so yummy! I could eat the entire bowl myself π I also did not use any mayo and just doubled the greek yogurt, but you cannot even tell the difference!
Jo McKinley says
Just wondering how many calories this recipe would be??
Vanessa says
I made this last night and it is DELICIOUS! I am currently training for a physique competition and was so tired of eating plain chicken and veges and desperately needed something new and healthy for my palate. This was so good it tasted like I was eating something bad π The only changes I made were no cilantro (that’s just I personal thing, I don’t like it much) and used Light Mayo to cut some calories. Thanks for saving me from another boring meal! So delicious!
Torie says
I made this salad this morning to use for lunches this week and it is absolutely lovely!!! I made a bigger batch so I had to double some of the servings, and I added lemon juice, diced onions and celery. This stuff was gooooooood!!! This is the only chicken salad recipe I will be eating from now on!!
Corey says
I am so glad you loved it Torie! Thanks for stopping by to share π
